IFASTAT provides reliable and verified statistics on fertilizers and their raw materials. Our methodology prioritizes transparency, accuracy and relevance for industry professionals, policymakers and researchers.

Data collection and sources
The majority of IFA’s data is collected from sources with authoritative insight into the markets in question. Data is collected from national and regional fertilizer associations, manufacturers, exporters, researchers, and local consultants. All company information is aggregated to the country level. In cases where directly reported data is unavailable, estimates may be compiled using inputs from country experts, third-party data providers and analyst calculations.
Data publication
IFA publishes historical statistics at the country-level, on a lagged basis, to comply with antitrust guidelines. Regional data is made available publicly to support transparency and stakeholder use. More details can be found on our Coverage page and our Publication schedule.
Data access
Reports on regularly published statistics are available from the Reports & analysis section of the website. Data can also be downloaded in bulk from the Data query, when data is available in detail at the country level. Some products that are not published at the country level, such as market outlooks or industrial consumption, are not available via the Data query but can be found in the Reports & analysis menu.
Supply, trade and apparent consumption
Capacity, production, home deliveries and trade data is primarily sourced from industry surveys conducted by IFA, complemented in a minority of cases by customs reporting and other sources. Supply and trade data published by IFA includes gross volumes dedicated to all uses. Apparent consumption is provided as a calculation (production + exports – imports). Apparent consumption may not reflect real use and no stock adjustments are made across periods.
Fertilizer consumption
Officially reported fertilizer consumption data is prioritized. Countries with official fertilizer consumption reporting may only publish nutrient or partial estimates, which are complemented by IFA with product-level estimates. In these cases and for countries with no official fertilizer reporting, fertilizer apparent consumption (production + imports – exports – industrial use) is used as a proxy. Data from 1961 to 1973 is available in nutrient totals only, and can be accessed from the Fertilizer consumption page.
