Meet the team

Laura Cross - Director

Laura is Director of Market Intelligence at IFA. She leads the activities of the Market Intelligence Service, which provides authoritative information on supply, demand and trade of fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials, and monitors developments impacting the outlook for fertilizer markets. This work is used to educate industry stakeholders on market drivers and set the scene for high-level discussion on fertilizers and food security. Laura joined IFA in 2021 and previously spent 10 years analyzing and forecasting fertilizer markets at CRU Group and Integer Research. Laura has a BSc in Physical Geography from King’s College London and is a recent graduate of the Women’s Leadership Development Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.

Taha Abdelmoula - Data Engineer

Taha is a Data Engineer at IFA. He is responsible for designing, building, and scaling IFA’s data infrastructure, while also analyzing data to support data-driven decision-making across all IFA services. He works closely with the Market Intelligence team to maintain and improve its data platform. He joined IFA in 2023, after 5 years at a data consulting company where he designed and delivered a wide range of data projects for clients, mainly in the energy and banking sectors. He holds MSc degrees in IT and Data Science from Mines Saint-Étienne and ENSIAS-Rabat, and a Master’s degree in Business Intelligence and IT Project Management from Paris-Dauphine University.

Étienne Achard - Senior Analyst

Étienne is a Senior Analyst at IFA. He has led the Market Intelligence team's data transition in recent years and is driving developments to improve data collection and access for IFA members. He also analyzes supply, demand and trade in fertilizers and related commodities. Étienne joined IFA in 2021, and previously worked for 7 years in the sugar industry as an analyst and trader. He is an agro-economist engineer with an MSc from AgroParisTech and a Master of Energy Economics from the French School of Petroleum Engineers.

Hanna Chtioui - Supply Analyst

Hanna is a Supply Analyst overseeing phosphate and potash statistics at IFA. Since joining IFA in 2023, her role has focused on supply analysis and market outlooks. Hanna is an experienced mining analyst with over 15 years of global experience across energy and mining sectors. She started her career in the O&G industry, before moving into strategy consulting in energy and mining sectors after four years. From 2015 to 2022, Hanna worked as Strategy Consultant and was responsible for analysis of mining market fundamentals, assessment of corporate strategies and solutions implementation to improve competitiveness. Hanna holds a PhD in Economics from Sorbonne University.

José de Sousa - Supply Program Manager

José is Supply Program Manager at IFA. He coordinates and oversees activities of the service relating to statistical publications. He joined IFA in 1990 and has led nitrogen coverage in this time, including expanding market intelligence and statistical surveys on supply of nitrogen in all forms and technical demand markets. He closely follows low carbon ammonia capacity developments. He holds diplomas in International Trade from University of Paris XI & XII and a Doctorate of Economical Anthropology from Sorbonne University.

Armelle Gruère - Demand Program Manager

Armelle is Demand Program Manager at IFA, leading the fertilizer demand statistics and forecasting activities. With a background in agricultural economics, applied statistics, and data analysis, she contributes to the development of robust and transparent demand data. Before joining IFA, Armelle developed her expertise across global agricultural markets, working on sectors such as cotton, livestock, and various specialty crops. Her experience spans both France and the United States and is enriched by field visits across diverse agricultural regions. She holds an MSc in Agronomic and Life Sciences Engineering from AgroParisTech, an MSc in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis, and has completed professional training in data analysis.

Sylvie Marcel-Monnier - Project Coordinator

Sylvie is Project Coordinator at IFA. She plays a key role in promoting IFA’s statistical program and supports the Market Intelligence team in preparing meetings and conferences, and in strengthening relationships with IFA’s Market Intelligence committee and Strategic Advisory Team. Since joining IFA in 1990, Sylvie has provided central support to the Market Intelligence team, contributing to major data projects and cross-team initiatives that enhance collaboration and efficiency. She hold a Master’s degree in International Business from Sorbonne University.

Rajiv Ram - Demand Analyst

Rajiv is a Fertilizer Demand Analyst at IFA, responsible for analyzing agricultural market drivers, policy developments and IFA’s demand assessment of specialty fertilizers. He is a specialist in agricultural economics and has a specific passion for global agriculture. Since graduating he has spent his career evaluating agricultural and fertilizer markets. He holds a BSc in Geography with Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE) and an MSc in Development Studies from the School of African and Oriental Arts (SOAS). Rajiv has a breadth of experience across a range of sectors including consulting, industry, NGOs and research. He has previously worked at Anglo American, CRU Group, LMC International, Oxfam and the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).
